••• Sydneys best sights and photo locations •••

Sydney is, without doubt, one of the most beautiful and photogenic cities on the planet. Think ‘Sydney’ and almost by default the mind explodes with imagery; from its glittering harbour and its surf beaches, to the Harbour Bridge and of course, the definitive sails of the Opera House. Here, it seems that the sun is always shining, icons abound and for once, scale exceeds expectation.

You may be lucky enough to be a Sydneysider, or already have made her acquaintance. Perhaps you are about to, or merely dream of doing just that. Regardless, this application is designed to detonate your imagination, point you in the right direction and inspire.

Whether you are a professional, hobbyist, or cut off more heads than Joseph-Ignace Guillotin, it really doesn’t matter. Image hunting - especially while traveling - is one of life’s great pleasures and now something almost all of us just ‘do’.

Professional travel writer and photographer Darroch Donald introduces you not only to the most recognised ‘sights’ in Sydney, but also some of its lesser-known secrets, all of which offer the best photographic potential. It explains many invaluable aspects drawn from his many years of imaging experience in and around the city, all with the aim of putting you in the right place at the best time. Listings include not only individual venues like the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge, but also some of the best harbour and coastal walks (with a photo edge) and specific events in the city like ‘Australia Day’ or ‘New Year’. Other subjects like ‘After Dark’ or ‘Wildlife’ are also covered, along with brief hints and tips and access within each listing.

OTHER FEATURES INCLUDE:
- Over 400 professional quality images with slideshows for each listing;
- Internal links, making it easier to plan your day of photography and sightseeing;
- Costs, opening hours and contact details including one-click web links and phone numbers;
- Sort and filter by name, cost, distance and suburb;
- GPS enabled Maps with walking and driving directions;
-A Facebook page on which to post your own images and review their quality and techniques.

••• About the Author •••

Santa delivered Darrochs first camera on Christmas Day 1975, when he was 10. Apparently, this pivotal event occurred because his mother had written to him in despair after the family instamatic (remember those!) had gone missing for the umpteenth time somewhere in the depths of Darroch’s bedroom, or the local countryside.

Following several extraordinary years co-managing a wildlife rehabilitation centre in his native Scotland, Darroch emigrated to New Zealand in 1992. There, after a stint as a wildlife consultant to the government, he published his first book ‘Creatures’ – an account of his wildlife encounters, using the unusual combination of all three disciplines of writing, art and photography.

Since 2000 Darroch has worked as a professional travel writer and photographer predominantly for Footprint Travel Guides UK. He is the sole author of 9 travel guides covering New Zealand and East Coast Australia and as such has probably covered the region more extensively and consistently than anyone else in the profession.
